Taylah Preston received a wildcard to compete at the US Open. She won her first WTA 125 singles title at the Vancouver Open earlier this month, defeating fellow Australian Maddison Inglis in the final. She also reached the semi-finals of the Hobart International right at the start of the year. The 20-year-old has lost her last two matches, as she was beaten by Kayla Day in the first stage of Cincinnati Open qualifying, and then lost to Oksana Selekhmeteva in Philadelphia. 

Her first-round opponent in New York is Alycia Parks. The American was able to reach her third quarter-final of the campaign earlier this week in Monterrey. Parks beat Petra Marcinko and Roland Garros finalist Maja Chwalinska, before a straight sets loss to Ann Li. Nevertheless, she has still suffered a number of early exits from tournaments in 2026.

Parks possesses plenty of firepower and could overwhelm Preston at times, especially if her serve is firing. However, the Australian has been the more consistent player over the whole year, and she should be able to create opportunities as the match develops.
