Tatjana Maria vs Marta Kostyuk prediction

Tatjana Maria advanced through to the second-round of the Cincinnati Open with a comfortable straight sets win over Whitney Osuigwe. The German reeled off four successive games in a row to take the first set and then recovered from 3-1 down in the second to win 6-2 6-3. 

The 38-year-old now goes up against Marta Kostyuk in the next round. Kostyuk finally found some form in Montreal last week. She snapped her six match losing run and made it through to the quarter-finals of a tournament for the third time this season after three battling displays. Nevertheless, she was forced to retire from her last eight match against Elena Rybakina while 6-1 3-1 down due to a wrist injury.

Kostyuk leads the head-to-head 1-0 after thrashing Maria 6-0 6-2 in the first-round of last year’s Canadian Open. She seems to have returned to form and as long as she is fit, she will be a commanding favourite to beat Maria in the second-round.
