Tatjana Maria continued her brilliant run at Queens’ Club as she pulled off an upset by defeating former Wimbledon champion Elena Rybakina in straight sets. Maria was a break down after taking the first but recovered to win 6-4 7-6. She’s into her first tour-level semi since Cleveland in 2023 and the first at WTA 500 level or above since Wimbledon in 2022.
She now takes on Madison Keys. The American picked up her 30th win of the year after coming from a set down to defeat Diana Shnaider 2-6 6-3 6-4. She’s into her first semi-final since Indian Wells three months ago.
Keys leads the head-to-head 3-0 and 1-0 on grass. They faced each other in the third-round of Wimbledon a decade ago, with the Australian Open champion winning 6-4 6-4. Maria has won five straight matches with the drop of just one set this week and has shown herself to be effective on the grass throughout her career. Keys will have to work hard for victory but we still expect the world number eight to win.
