Talia Gibson vs Xinyu Wang prediction
Australian qualifier Talia Gibson picked up her second win on the WTA Tour and her first against a top 100 opponent after defeating Greet Minnen in straight sets. A bizarre first set saw Gibson race into a 4-0 lead, only for Minnen to win five games on the trot to edge ahead in the set. The Australian regrouped well to hold serve and then win the set on a tiebreak. She went a break down in the second but reeled off four straight games to win 7-6 6-4.
She will now take on Xinyu Wang after she defeated Suzan Lamens in three sets. Wang dominated the first set and broke back after going 4-2 down in the second, only for Lamens to force the match into a deciding set after winning the tiebreak comfortably. The world number 37 was not to be denied however, as she broke at the start of the third set to win 6-2 6-7 6-2.
This is their first tour-level match, but Wang did defeat Gibson in the first stage of qualifying for the German Open two months ago, going on to make the final after a stunning run overall. Wang is well placed to defeat Gibson again here.
