Talia Gibson’s poor form continued last time out in Memphis as she extended her losing run to four matches following a straight sets defeat to Tatjana Maria. The Australian is without a victory since the Nottingham Open in the middle of June. However, her results have taken a dip since that point.
Her first-round opponent is Elisabetta Cocciaretto. The Italian is coming into this on the back of an encouraging display at the Washington Open. She got past Clara Tauson and Emma Navarro in three set battles, but despite taking the first set against four-time major winner Naomi Osaka, she would fall to a defeat in the last eight. Nevertheless, she will hope to build on that momentum with a strong showing here.
Cocciaretto is a real threat on this surface, as shown by her run to the title in Hobart right at the start of the year.
