Talia Gibson reached round two of the Australian Open for the second straight year after comfortably beating Anna Blinkova in straight sets. Gibson made a strong start and broke on five occasions overall as she wrapped up a 6-1 6-3 win after one hour and 16 minutes. 

Diana Shnaider is her next opponent as the Russian got through a tough first-round match with two-time Grand Slam singles champion Barbora Krejcikova. Shnaider went down a set but improved in sets two and three to win 2-6 6-3 6-3 after two hours and 12 minutes. Krejcikova did seem to be struggling with a knee injury as the match wore on, but it was still a morale-boosting victory for Shnaider as she plots a deep run in Melbourne.

Shnaider will be expected to win in straight sets against the wildcard and book a place in the third-round of the Australian Open for the second straight year.
