Talia Gibson has enjoyed a fine start to 2026, with 13 wins from 18 matches. She was able to win a main draw match at the Australian Open for the second consecutive year, before picking up a title on the ITF circuit in Brisbane less than two weeks later. Gibson followed that up with two more deep runs at lower-level events, before qualifying for Indian Wells with victories over Madison Brengle and Elvina Kalieva.
She faces Ann Li in the first-round. The American’s season is yet to get going, and she has a negative win-loss record in 2026 so far. Her best result is a third-round appearance at the Qatar Open, but she has since followed that up with early exits in Dubai and Merida. Her ranking has now slipped to outside of the top 40 in the world.
Gibson is the underdog, but she will take plenty of confidence from her start to the campaign and certainly has the ability to push Li in this first-round match.
