Suzan Lamens vs Xinyu Wang prediction

Suzan Lamens had an encouraging week in Montreal as she made the third-round following wins against Polina Kudermetova and Beatriz Haddad Maia. However, she was outclassed against Lin Zhu, losing 6-2 6-2. That equalled her best performance at a hard court event this year. Her run in Cincinnati was a lot more short-lived however, as she lost to Polina’s sister Veronika Kudermetova 6-1 6-3 in round one. 

Xinyu Wang will be her opponent in the first-round. The Chinese player skipped Montreal but did compete in Cincinnati, making it to the second-round where she faced Coco Gauff. Despite her victory against the French Open champion earlier in the year in Berlin, Wang was second best in this one as she lost 6-3 6-2. Nevertheless, the last couple of months have been positive for the world number 37 as she reached the final of the German Open as a qualifier and reached the semis in Prague.

Wang has enjoyed the better season of the two and is in better form overall. Lamens could apply some pressure at points, but the Chinese player is a clear favourite to advance.
