Suzan Lamens recovered from a poor second set to defeat Yanina Wickmayer and reach the next stage of the Libema Open. The Dutch player suffered a slump in form in the middle of the match but regrouped to win 6-3 0-6 6-3.
She now goes up against Ann Li. The American produced a strong display to beat fifth seed Anastasia Potapova 7-5 6-2. Li was particularly impressive on serve as she produced a first serve percentage of 77% and restricted her opponent to just one break point opportunity.
They have not featured in a match together on the main draw but did play against each other in a qualifier for the Hobart International in January earlier this year. Li defeated Lamens 6-1 6-4 that day. Neither player has great experience on the grass but Li is coming off the back of a fine win and is ranked over 20 places above her opponent in the world rankings. We think she’s decent value to edge through in three sets.
