Stan Wawrinka vs Pedro Martinez prediction
Stan Wawrinka picked up his first win on the ATP Tour this season with a hard-fought 6-4 6-7 7-6 win over qualifier Timofey Skatov, although he made hard work of the win having been a set and a break up and having match points in the second set.
The Swiss veteran knocked down seven aces while he also saved 73% of his break points, but he still conceded 15 of them in total and is now facing a tougher opponent in the form of second seed Pedro Martinez.
Martinez’s best result of the season so far is a semi-final appearance at the Argentina Open, where he lost to Francisco Cerundolo. He then suffered back-to-back defeats at both the Rio and Chile Open, losing to Camilo Ugo and Laslo Djere, with the Serbian going on to win his respective event.
Wawrinka leads the head-to-head 1-0, having beaten Martinez in Acapulco five years ago, and he has the weapons to cause problems for the Spaniard, but we think Martinez will outlast the 40-year-old and make it through to the last eight.
