South Sydney Rabbitohs team news

The suspension of Latrell Mitchell (one week) sees Jye Gray move back to fullback. Jack Wighton moves to five-eighth with Lewis Dodd again denied a potential Souths starting debut. Wighton will ease the pressure on halves partner Jayden Sullivan with a much-needed kicking game, which has been lacking without Jamie Humphreys and Cody Walker. Wighton’s switch sees Euan Aitken move from the second row to the centres, with Tallis Duncan coming into the back row. Jai Arrow retains the lock spot with Lachlan Hubner returning from concussion on the bench. Josh Schuster is again named on an extended bench.

Squad: 1. Jye Gray 2. Bayleigh Bentley-Hape 3. Euan Aitken 4. Campbell Graham 5. Isaiah Tass 6. Jack Wighton 7. Jayden Sullivan 8. Sean Keppie 9. Peter Mamouzelos 10. Tevita Tatola 11. Newcastle Knights team news

In morale boosting news for Head Coach Adam O’Brien, middle forwards Jacob Saifiti and Adam Elliott return from calf injuries. Saifiti will start as Tyson Frizell moves to lock. Mathew Croker slides to the bench alongside Elliott while Tyrone Thompson and Thomas Cant drop off. Tyson Gamble (broken nose) has been named on the extended bench and is a chance to play.

South Sydney Rabbitohs vs Newcastle Knights prediction

South Sydney were valiant in Melbourne but lost for the 20th consecutive time to the Storm, 24-16.

Newcastle made a rare appearance on Anzac Day and travelled across the Tasman to play the Warriors but succumbed 26-12. As has been the case all year scoring enough points to win matches remains a problem for the Knights.

Newcastle and South Sydney have split their previous eight matches at four wins apiece. In their most recent matchup Newcastle defeated South Sydney by 20 points at Homebush..

With more positional changes again this week for Wayne Bennett and his side, consistently scoring enough points has already proven difficult. Jack Wighton brings plenty of experience to the halves having spent much of his time there with the Raiders so his transition should be relatively smooth.

We think this might be one of the more lower scoring games of the weekend as Newcastle’s defence has been sound throughout the season.

South Sydney Rabbitohs vs Newcastle Knights tip: Total match points under 43.5
