Sorana Cirstea continued her momentum as she won both of her qualifying rounds with the loss of just five games in total. This follows a run to the round-of-16 in Cincinnati, with the 35-year-old defeating Donna Vekic, Magdalena Frech and Yue Yuan. Her opponent Moyuka Uchijima continued her horrendous run of form in Cincinnati as she lost for the ninth match running against Camila Osorio. She has slid down the world rankings ever since her fine campaign at the Madrid Open, which saw her get through to the last eight. The Japanese player had ascended to her highest ever ranking of 47 in May but has already dropped down over 40 places since.
Uchijima is extremely low on confidence and will find it tough against Cirstea, who is picking up victories on a consistent basis at the moment. The Romanian is a strong favourite.
