Sorana Cirstea vs Maya Joint prediction

Sorana Cirstea prepares for her final Canadian Open, as she signalled her intention to retire at the end of this current season. It’s been a very strong year for the 36-year-old, and she rose to a career high ranking of 17 just last month. She also won a tour-level title in Cluj, defeating Emma Raducanu in the final. The Romanian had a match point in her third-round match against Linda Noskova at Wimbledon, but the Czech would go on to save it and win the tournament. 

She faces Maya Joint in round two after receiving a bye. The Australian notched up her first WTA 1000 main draw victory of the season after getting past Yuliia Starodubtseva in three sets. Starodubtseva had won their previous meeting at the Nottingham Open in June and was on course for another victory as she went ahead after the first set. However, Joint recovered to win 4-6 6-1 6-3.

Cirstea leads the head-to-head 1-0 after a comfortable win at Indian Wells last year. Joint has lacked consistency this season, and she will find it tough against Cirstea.
