Sorana Cirstea has fond memories when it comes to taking on Donna Vekic, having won four of her last five encounters against the Croatian with two of those victories coming on an outdoor hard court. Cirstea has been forced to stew over an early exit in Montreal at the hands of Lulu Sun for the past week and a half and will no doubt be desperate to get back out on court.
Donna Vekic will need to utilise her powerful groundstrokes here and placing those shots accurately as she moves to a hard court surface following the grass court season. She can be inconsistent at times, which makes this particularly contest difficult to predict. If Vekic is at her best then she stands an excellent chance, but a slow start could lead Cirstea to pull away from her quickly.
It’s hard to ignore the record Cirstea has over Vekic in previous encounters and whilst it would be no surprise to see this match go the distance, the smart move would be backing the Romanian to come out on top.
