Sonay Kartal vs Andrea Lazaro Garcia prediction

Sonay Kartal made her return from a six month injury layoff at the Billie Jean King Cup last week, losing in three sets to Marie Bouzkova. It was an encouraging display after the Brit had been out of action for so long, and she now sets her sights on a return to competitive action on the WTA Tour at the China Open. Kartal impressed at this event last year, beating Mirra Andreeva on the way to the quarter-finals.

Her first-round opponent is Andrea Lazaro Garcia. The Spaniard entered the main draw after two victories in qualifying, including a straight sets win over Linda Fruhvirtova. Her biggest achievement was winning the WTA 125 event in Dubrovnik, where she came from a set down to beat Anhelina Kalinina in the final.

Lazaro Garcia’s match sharpness is an obvious advantage, particularly given Kartal’s prolonged absence, but she did look sharp on her return and knows how to perform well at this event.
