Sonay Kartal sealed one of the biggest wins of her career so far as she defeated world number 16 Daria Kasatkina in the first-round of Queen’s Club. The Briton made a fast start and dominated the early stages but was forced to dig deep and hold off a fightback from Kasatkina to win 6-1 3-6 6-3.
She takes on Amanda Anisimova in the next round. The eighth seed took on another British player in the form of Jodie Burrage in the first-round. The American recovered from going a set down to win 4-6 6-3 6-4. She spurned a few opportunities in the first set and struggled to close out the match after going up a double break but still managed to get the job done in front of a partisan crowd.
Anisimova is likely to benefit from having played a Brit in the previous round and should be able to deal with the atmosphere. She can be a strong player on the grass and should make it through.
