Solana Sierra vs Sloane Stephens prediction
Solana Sierra last featured in Memphis, losing in round one to Tatiana Barkova in three sets. The Argentine’s best WTA 1000 result of the season so far was a run to the round-of-16 at the Madrid Open. Her ranking has dropped back to outside the world’s top 80 after a second-round exit at Wimbledon, though she was close to victory against two-time Grand Slam singles champion Coco Gauff. Overall, she has 20 wins and 20 losses from this year so far.
Sloane Stephens is her first-round opponent in Toronto. The American reached the final of this event in 2018, losing to Simona Halep. Stephens has not competed in the main draw of the Canadian Open since a second-round loss to Aryna Sabalenka five years ago. Her struggles with injuries have seen her drop to outside the world’s top 300, though she has played far more on tour than she did in 2025. Stephens came from a set down in qualifying to beat Harriet Dart.
Sierra will start as the favourite but Stephens’ pedigree on hard courts and ability to raise her level on the biggest stages suggest she should not be entirely discounted.
