Sofia Kenin has endured a difficult 2026, plummeting to outside of the top 100 in the world rankings. At the US Open, Kenin beat Venus Williams before a loss to world number three Jessica Pegula. Her latest match came in Seoul, where she lost in three sets to Alina Charaeva in round one. Kenin controlled the opening set but was unable to close out a tight second before Charaeva completed the comeback to win 3-6 7-6 (4) 6-4. 

Ashlyn Krueger has not competed since her first-round defeat at the US Open to Amanda Anisimova. Her most impressive result of the campaign was her run from qualifying to the round-of-16 at Wimbledon, and that grass court season also included a title in Ilkley and a run to the semi-finals in Birmingham. 

The head-to-head is locked at 2-2 and 1-1 on outdoor hard court, with Kenin winning their 2026 meeting in Madrid. This has the makings of another competitive match between the pair, with little to separate them.
