Mark Williams won an enthralling contest with age-old rival John Higgins in a final-frame decider to make his first Masters semi-final in 12 years and he was up to his usual shot-making tricks as he held his nerve to progress. He faces Ronnie O’Sullivan’s conqueror Neil Robertson, who was much the superior player in his quarter-final with the Rocket, capitalising on his opponent’s sub-par performance. Robertson has a fairly dominant head-to-head score against Williams and it could well be the case that the veteran runs out of steam here. Williams’ battle with Higgins is likely to have taken it out of the Welshman and it is Aussie Robertson that is fancied to reach the final.
