It has been a superb season for rising Chinese star Yan Bingtao who began the campaign by winning his first title at the Riga Masters and has gone on to reach a further four semi-finals, including the final of the Players Championship. There are high hopes that he can go deep at the Crucible this year – on what is only his second appearance in Sheffield – but first he must navigate his way past Elliot Slessor, who will be making his debut at the event. The 25-year-old Englishman came through three rounds of qualifying to reach the main draw and has achieved some decent results this season, but he is likely to be outclassed here with Yan Bingtao tipped to progress.
