Stephen Maguire has had plenty of success in his career but has arguably underachieved given his obvious talent but with two titles to his name this season – most recently at the Tour Championship in June – the two-time Crucible semi-finalist comes into this tournament with plenty of confidence that he can enjoy a good run. Martin Gould is a somewhat unpredictable opponent as he is prone to flashes of brilliance from time to time but those moments have been less frequent over the last couple of years so Maguire should progress to the second round with a couple of frames to spare.
