BARRY HAWKINS VS ALEXANDER URSENBACHER PREDICTION
The last first round match at this year’s World Championship sees former finalist Barry Hawkins meet Swiss debutant Alexander Ursenbacher. The 24-year-old challenger has nothing to lose here and put in some good performances in qualifying so Hawkins will need to guard against any complacency. The pair have met twice before with Hawkins winning all 10 of the frames they have contested but both of those meetings took place in 2013 and will have little bearing on the outcome here. Ursenbacher is much improved since then and can nick a few frames, but Hawkins is one of the most reliable performers at the Crucible and should win this opener fairly comfortably.
