Sloane Stephens vs Belinda Bencic prediction

Sloane Stephens won a WTA 1000 main draw match for the second time this season as she got past Solana Sierra in Toronto. The 33-year-old, who reached the final of this event eight years ago, backed up her qualifying win over Harriet Dart with a 6-3 6-4 victory in round one. 

She now faces Belinda Bencic. The Swiss player last competed at Wimbledon. She defeated the likes of Xinyu Wang and Anna Kalinskaya to reach the round-of-16. Despite taking the first set against Coco Gauff, she would go on to lose in three. Bencic is yet to reach a semi-final on the WTA Tour this season, though she remains ranked firmly inside the top 20. 

Stephens leads the head-to-head 2-0, and is yet to drop a set to Bencic, but they have only played against each other once since 2015. Stephens will need to dictate with her forehand to prevent Bencic from settling into her rhythm, but she’s likely to find it tough.
