Shuai Zhang vs Ann Li prediction
Shuai Zhang got through a topsy-turvy encounter with Katie Volynets to book her place into the semi-finals of the Guangzhou Open. She served for the first set but was broken by the American, though still took it on a tiebreak. She broke in the ninth game of the second to serve for the match but could not get the job done, as Volynets reeled off three games in a row to level things up. The third set saw breaks being traded on a regular basis, with the Chinese player once again failing to serve out the match. She was able to do so at the third attempt after breaking yet again to finally win 7-6 (5) 5-7 7-5.
She goes up against Ann Li next. Li, the second seed, had a more comfortable match as she defeated Elisabetta Cocciaretto in straight sets. The American did lose serve on three occasions but was always ahead in the match as she won 6-3 6-4 after an hour and 24 minutes. This is her third semi-final of the season, and on both previous occasions, she managed to get through to the final.
Li won their previous encounter in the first-round of the 2021 Australian Open and the higher-ranked American will be the favourite to come out on top here.
