Shintaro Mochizuki vs Alex de Minaur prediction

Shintaro Mochizuki advanced to the second-round of the US Open after beating Hugo Gaston in three sets. The Japanese player brought the momentum from qualifying with him and his victory never looked in doubt as he won 6-4 6-3 6-4.

Alex de Minaur easily beat compatriot Christopher O’Connell in three sets to get his campaign off and running. The eighth seed found his rhythm early on and did not even face a break point as he won 6-3 6-4 6-4. De Minaur has enjoyed a fine hard court summer swing, having won the Washington Open last month and made a deep run in Toronto just a week later.

Mochizuki bring fearless aggression and can trouble opponents with his depth and pace, especially on return. Nevertheless, De Minaur is a seasoned pro, who moves as well as anyone on the tour and can counterpunch at will on a hard court.

The Australian has done an excellent job of comfortably defeating lower ranked players in recent times and we don’t see that changing here against the world number 112.
