Shau Zhang vs Lucia Bronzetti prediction
Shau Zhang is currently ranked at number 11 in doubles, but made her way through qualifying in Charleston to make the main singles draw. She defeated Haley Giavara before beating Bethanie Mattek-Sands in three sets.
Before those string of wins, she had not played a singles match since the Dubai Open, where she failed to get out of qualifying after losing heavily to Suzan Lamens. By contrast, her form in the doubles has been strong with final appearances at both the Abu Dhabi and ATX Open.
Lucia Bronzetti made a credible third-round appearance at Indian Wells before losing to world number one Aryna Sabalenka in straight sets while she also lost a close three-set match to Maria Sakkari in the second round of Miami.
Bronzetti is ranked considerably higher at 60 to Zhang’s 176, though the latter did defeat the Italian 6-1 6-2 in an earlier qualifier for the Dubai Open just last month. Nevertheless, we believe Bronzetti, who won her only WTA Tour event at the Rabat Grand Prix in 2023 on clay, will exact revenge here.
