Sebastian Baez vs Pablo Carreno Busta prediction
Sebastian Baez ended his run of seven matches without a win after a nervy victory in the first-round of the Bastad Open last month, but his results have still been uninspiring since. He was thrashed by Luciano Darderi in round two, and then followed that up with another early exit in Kitzbuhel a week later to Yannick Hanfmann. He competed in his first hard court event since the Miami Open in Cincinnati, defeating David Goffin but then being on the end of a defeat to Gabriel Diallo.
Baez will face 34-year-old Pablo Carreno Busta in Winston-Salem. The Spaniard, who won the tournament in 2016, easily defeated Yoshihito Nishioka 6-0 6-3 to book a place in the second-round.
Carreno Busta also leads the head-to-head 2-0, having beaten Baez on two occasions in 2022. The Olympic bronze medalist won in Monte Carlo three years ago and backed that up with a dominant straight sets win in Basel at the end of the season.
The former world number 10 is more suited to these conditions than Baez, who has barely registered any victories on the tour since the spring. We very much like Carreno Busta’s chances here and the former champion will be raring to go.
