Sebastian Baez continued his incredible start to the season as he picked up two victories on Friday to make it through to the final in Auckland. Baez was leading 7-5 0-1 in his quarter-final match against top seed Ben Shelton when play was suspended, and he returned the next day to seal victory after breaking the world number eight’s serve once again. He then faced Marcos Giron later that day in the semi-final and won 6-1 6-4 to pick up a seventh straight win in a row.
He faces Jakub Mensik in the final. The young Czech also won two matches in one day, as he defeated big-serving Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard 6-4 6-2 in his quarter-final match, before going on to beat Fabian Marozsan in three sets to advance to his third ATP Tour final. Mensik saved five set points in the first set tiebreak and raced ahead in the decider to win 7-6 (9) 4-6 6-1.
Mensik is the higher seed and is serving well, but it’s hard to look past Baez after his stellar start to the campaign. He has beaten a host of strong names so far in 2026 and he’ll be confident of winning a second ATP title on hard courts.
