Sebastian Baez competed at the European Open last week but lost in straight sets to Valentin Royer. It has been a very tough last few months for the Argentine and his form completely fell off a cliff after making the final of the Bucharest Open in April. He did pick up an impressive title in Rio during the North American hard court swing in February, but his second half of the campaign has been unimpressive and he has lost 10 of his 13 matches on hard court.
Denis Shapovalov will want to continue the momentum indoors after making the semi-finals of the Stockholm Open last time out. He faced Casper Ruud in the last four, a player he defeated in the final of the Dallas Open earlier in the year, but the Norwegian was too good on this occasion.
Nevertheless, there were positives for Shapovalov to take, and he will be confident of a win against an out-of-form Baez.
