Sara Bejlek enjoyed a memorable run at the Cincinnati Open, reaching the semi-finals of a WTA 1000 tournament for the first time in her career. The Czech also produced the biggest result of her career along the way, stunning world number one Aryna Sabalenka in straight sets before following it up with another impressive victory over Madison Keys in the quarter-finals. Her remarkable run eventually came to end against Coco Gauff in the last four, but it was still a hugely encouraging week for Bejlek ahead of the US Open. The youngster had already demonstrated her quality on hard courts earlier in the season by winning the title in Abu Dhabi.

Cristina Bucsa also won her first tour-level title in 2026, as she picked up the Merida Open title. However, the Spaniard then embarked on a worrying run of results, as she lost eight matches in a row from Indian Wells all the way to Cincinnati.

Bejlek has moved inside the top 30 for the first time in her career, and she has to be viewed as a clear favourite for this one.
