When on song, Ryan Searle is a dangerous opponent and he proved he can bring his A-game to the big stage by making it all the way to the semi-finals of the PDC World Darts Championship at the turn of the year.
The 38-year-old has also reached the final of the International Darts Open and won a Players Championship event in 2026, so William O'Connor knows he has a game on his hands here.
For his part, O'Connor can produce moments of magic himself but it doesn't happen all too often in the major events. Somewhat surprisingly, this will be the man from Limerick's first ever appearance at the World Matchplay.
Although Searle can be hit-or-miss on the big stage at times, we like his chances in this opener.
