THE PREDICTION

La Rochelle have won just four of nine Top 14 matches played so far after a disappointing defeat away at newly-promoted Perpignan last Saturday. Last season’s runners-up look a shadow of their former, resilient selves this season but they have at least won each of their last three at home to suggest a bounce-back performance could be possible against travelling Bordeaux. The visitors will have other ideas, though, after going top of the league for the first time since covid-19 spoiled their 2019/20 season. Bordeaux beat Clermont handily in a 25-9 result last Saturday to make it seven matches unbeaten and six straight wins in a row that makes backing them with a +5 head-start here look like a tempting move. An outright La Rochelle victory seems like the sensible line but this promises to be a fascinating Friday night fixture indeed.
