THE TEAM NEWS
NEW ZEALAND
- New Zealand got their Rugby Championship campaign off to a solid start as they were able to grind-out a tough win away to Argentina and will now look for an improved performance back on home soil as they host South Africa.
- The All Blacks could make several changes to their line-up with Sonny Bill Williams set to make his first international appearance of the year as the centre looks to win his fitness battle with a hamstring injury.
- After opting to rest the contingent of Crusaders players in the squad for last week’s game, they could all be back in contention here to give Steve Hansen plenty of options although veteran Ryan Crotty has been ruled out for the competition with a fractured thumb.
SOUTH AFRICA
- South Africa posted an impressive display as they were comfortable winners over Australia in their Rugby Championship opener last weekend and will hope they can replicate that display as they head to New Zealand.
- The Springboks claimed a win on their last trip to Wellington as they shocked the hosts with a 34-36 win in last year’s Rugby Championship but that will be on the mind of the All Blacks who do not make a habit of losing at home.
- Herschel Jantjies was the star of the show on his debut against Australia last week and could put himself in contention for another place in the side here but Faf de Klerk could take his place at scrum half whilst Cobus Reinach is another option to play at #9.
THE PREDICTION
This should be a mouth-watering contest between New Zealand and South Africa as both look to build on opening round victories in the Rugby Championship. The All Blacks did what was required against Argentina last week but their under-strength side will be boosted for this contest. They will need to be at the top of their game with South Africa putting in a very good display to see off Australia last week but having won on their last visit to Wellington, the All Blacks should be too strong here as they ensure they do not lose back-to-back home games against the Springboks.
