THE TEAM NEWS

WESTERN FORCE

  • Western Force were again unable to make some promising positions count as they slipped to a second defeat in a row at the start of their Super Rugby AU campaign as they were edged by the Reds.
  • A high-scoring first half left the score at 21-19 at the break but the Force were unable to get their noses in front and they were eventually beaten 31-24, although they will take plenty from their performance.
  • To make matters worse for the Force as they go in the hunt of their first success of the competition, they have suffered two injury blows with captain Ian Prior sidelined along with Greg Holmes.

BRUMBIES

  • Brumbies made it two wins from two at the start of the tournament as they edged NSW Waratahs in a thrilling contest last week but they will need to improve on that performance after underwhelming for large spells.
  • The Waratahs led by 15 points in the first half but the Brumbies hit back to reduce the deficit to just three points at the break but they needed a try in the final minutes of the game to snatch the victory.
  • The Brumbies have lost fly-half Noah Lolesio with Bayley Kuenzie taking the number 10 shirt while there will be a debut on the wing for Solomone Kata with Scott Sio and Will Miller also earning starts.

THE PREDICTION

Western Force have shown flashes of what they can do in their opening two matches so far but they have yet to put in a full 80-minute performance which has seen them lose both games. They now face a huge task against the Brumbies who hold the opposite record, although they will need to improve after a fairly underwhelming outing last week. The Brumbies can play to a much higher standard and having won the last seven clashes with the Force, they should be able to come out on top in this one and win by at least 14 points in the process.
