Bordeaux struggled to cope with the cancellation of their promising 2019/20 Top 14 season due to covid-19 last year but they returned to form at the start of 2021 to eventually finish in fourth. They should be able to mount an even stronger challenge this time around but a shock 27-15 humbling away at newly promoted Biarritz last Saturday is an unwelcome and early setback. Stade Francais were not the best of travellers last season, with their home form their saving grace to finish just inside the play-offs. However, an opening day loss at home to their Parisien rivals Racing 92 will also put a dampener on the new campaign despite a slightly competitive 21-36 result. This looks one of the harder matches to call now given both teams’ performances last week but the nature of Bordeaux’s should spur them on to improvements in front of their home fans.
