THE TEAM NEWS

WIGAN WARRIORS

  • Wigan Warriors were underwhelming in their season opener and struggled to find any fluency in their attacking play which played its part in them going down to Hull KR.
  • The Warriors will be hoping that they will have fixed some of their issues on the training field during the week and despite last week’s defeat, they have named an unchanged 21-man squad for this contest.

21-man squad: Field, French, King, Wardle, Marshall, Cust, Smith, Singleton, Powell, Byrne, Isa, Farrell, Smithies, Cooper, Ellis, Havard, Pearce-Paul, Shorrocks, Mago, O’Neill, Miski

Unavailable: Ryan Hampshire (Injured), Iain Thornley (Injured)

Questionable:

WAKEFIELD TRINITY

  • Wakefield Trinity were competitive in their clash with Catalans Dragons but ultimately did not have enough quality to overcome their opponents as they were beaten in their opening game of the season.
  • Trinity will need to be better defensively in this fixture but their attacking options could be handed a boost with the potential return of Liam Hood after the hooker sat out through injury last week.

21-man squad: Jowitt, Taufua, Hall, Lineham, Gaskell, Lino, Battye, Hood, Whitbread, Ashurst, Tanginoa, Pitts, Kay, Atoni, Kershaw, Proctor, Smith, Langi, Butler, Murphy, Eseh

Unavailable: Josh Bowden (Injured), Jordan Crowther (Injured), Reece Lyne (Injured)

Questionable: Liam Hood

THE PREDICTION

Wigan Warriors will have a point to prove after they struggled in their opening game with Hull KR last week. The Warriors were excellent on home soil last year and will hope their first game at the DW Stadium proves to be the catalyst for earning a first win of the campaign. Wakefield Trinity stand in their way here and despite pushing Catalans Dragons fairly close in round 1, they have plenty of improvements to make. Wigan start as big favourites here and having won all of their home regular season games last year, they should be able to run out victors by 13+ points.
