THE TEAM NEWS

LEEDS RHINOS

  • Rohan Smith was given an insight into the job he has to turn around the fortunes of Leeds Rhinos as his new side were on the end of a disappointing loss to Salford Red Devils in his first game in charge.
  • Salford were comfortable victors in that contest as they exploited some poor defensive efforts from the Rhinos but they could have Liam Sutcliffe back in the fold this week and with another week of training with the new man in charge, a better performance is expected.

21-man squad: 2 David Fusitu’a, 4 Liam Sutcliffe, 5 Ash Handley, 6 Blake Austin, 8 Mikolaj Oledzki, 9 Kruise Leeming, 11 James Bentley, 12 Rhyse Martin, 13 Zane Tetevano, 14 Brad Dwyer, 16 Richie Myler, 17 Cameron Smith, 18 Tom Holroyd, 19 Bodene Thompson, 21 Morgan Gannon, 22 Sam Walters, 23 Jack Broadbent, 24 Jarrod O’Connor, 25 James Donaldson, 32 Jack Sinfield, 33 Zak Hardaker

Unavailable: Harry Newman, Corey Johnson, Aidan Sezer, Jack Walker, Matt Prior, Alex Mellor, Tom Briscoe

Questionable: Liam Sutcliffe

WAKEFIELD TRINITY

  • Wakefield Trinity were edged out by Toulouse in a poor defeat last week as their poor run of form continued with Willie Poching’s side now losing their last five Super League matches which has seen them remain in trouble at the foot of the table.
  • The pressure will be on here as they aim to bounce back and stop the rot against another struggling side but star winger Tom Johnstone misses out once again, although Jacob Miller returns from a ban while Tom Lineham is also in the 21-man squad after a long layoff with a knee injury.

21-man squad: 1 Max Jowitt, 4 Reece Lyne, 5 Tom Lineham, 6 Jacob Miller, 7 Mason Lino, 8 Eddie Battye, 9 Liam Hood, 10 Tinirau Arona, 11 Matty Ashurst, 12 Kelepi Tanginoa, 13 Jay Pitts, 14 Jordan Crowther, 15 Jai Whitbread, 16 James Batchelor, 17 Lee Gaskell, 19 Liam Kay, 22 Yusuf Aydin, 30 Corey Hall, 31 Thomas Minns, 35 David Fifita, 36 Rob Butler

Unavailable: Bill Tupou, Lee Kershaw, Tom Johnstone

Questionable: Tom Lineham

THE PREDICTION

These two teams will both be desperate to come out on top of this contest with neither side yet to impress so far this season. Leeds Rhinos were hoping to a strong start to life under new head coach Rohan Smith but fell to Salford Red Devils last week while Wakefield Trinity allowed Toulouse to close the gap on them at the foot of the table. There is pressure on both teams to win this one with victory likely to ease some lingering worries about being sucked into a relegation battle and while it is difficult to back either side with any real conviction, the Rhinos are fancied to bounce back to make it three wins from their last four.
