THE TEAM NEWS

LEEDS RHINOS

  • Leeds Rhinos’ season went from back to worse as they were on the end of a heavy loss to Castleford Tigers in last week’s Challenge Cup clash which came on the back of head coach Richard Agar’s resignation following a string of poor results.
  • The Rhinos went down to Salford Red Devils in their last Super League outing and on the back of last week’s loss, they have now won just one of their seven games to begin this campaign and to make matters worse, interim coach Jamie Jones-Buchanan has lost hooker Brad Dwyer to a one-game ban.

21-man squad: 1 Jack Walker, 4 Liam Sutcliffe, 5 Ash Handley, 6 Blake Austin, 7 Aidan Sezer, 8 Nikolaj Oledzki, 9 Kruise Leeming, 10 Matt Prior, 11 James Bentley, 12 Rhyse Martin, 15 Alex Mellor, 17 Cameron Smith, 19 Bodene Thompson, 20 Tom Briscoe, 21 Morgan Gannon, 23 Jack Broadbent, 24 Jarrod O’Connor, 25 James Donaldson, 27 Muizz Mustapha, 28 Max Simpson, 29 Liam Tindall

Questionable:

ST. HELENS

  • St. Helens’ unbeaten start to the season was ended as they were stunned by bottom side and previously winless Toulouse in their last Super League outing but they went some way to putting that behind them by advancing to the quarter-finals of the Challenge Cup last week.
  • Saints proved to be far too good for Championship outfit Whitehaven and the defending champions look set to be able to call upon talisman Alex Walmsley for this clash after he has been forced to miss the last two games with a hamstring issue.

21-man squad: 1 Jack Welsby, 2 Tommy Makinson, 4 Mark Percival, 6 Jonny Lomax, 7 Lewis Dodd, 8 Alex Walmsley, 9 James Roby, 12 Joe Batchelor, 13 Morgan Knowles, 14 Joey Lussick, 15 Louie McCarthy-Scarsbrook, 16.Curtis Sironen, 17 Agnatius Paasi, 18 Kyle Amor, 19 Jake Wingfield, 21 Josh Simm, 22 Ben Davies, 23 Konrad Hurrell, 24 Dan Norman, 26 Sam Royle, 27 Jonathan Bennison

Questionable: Alex Walmsley

THE PREDICTION

Leeds Rhinos have made a dreadful start to 2022 and there is an air of uncertainty surrounding the club as they search for a new head coach. They were dumped out of the Challenge Cup last week and with just one win to their name in six Super League matches, their league campaign is already in danger of being over before it has even really got going. Interim coach Jamie Jones-Buchanan will be desperate for his side to respond here but the Rhinos face an almighty task against a St. Helens outfit with a point to prove after they were shocked in their last league game against bottom side Toulouse. A reaction is likely here and it is difficult to see the Rhinos living with Saints who can win this by 13+ points.
