THE TEAM NEWS

NORTH QUEENSLAND COWBOYS

  • North Queensland Cowboys were far too good for the Dolphins in their Queensland derby last week with their attacking quality really shining through.
  • They will be a real threat this year if they can continue to ask the questions they did last week and it is little surprise that head coach Todd Payten has opted to retain the same 17 here.

Starting 13: 1. Scott Drinkwater 2. Kyle Feldt 3. Valentine Holmes 4. Zac Laybutt 5. Murray Taulagi 6. Tom Dearden 7. Chad Townsend 8. Jordan McLean 9. Reece Robson 10. Jason Taumalolo 11. Heilum Luki 12. Jeremiah Nanai 13. Reuben Cotter Bench: 14. Jake Granville 15. Griffin Neame 16. Sam McIntyre 17. Kulikefu Finefeuiaki Reserves:18. Tomas Chester 19. Thomas Mikaele 20. Semi Valemei 21. Jack Gosiewski 22. Jake Clifford

NEWCASTLE KNIGHTS

  • Newcastle Knights were extremely underwhelming last week as they failed to build on their bright end to 2023 with them suffering a meek loss to Canberra Raiders.
  • The Knights will be desperate to right the wrongs of that display but they will once again be without Jayden Brailey while Enari Tuala is out with a quad injury so Tom Jenkins takes his spot on the wing.

Starting 13: 1. Kalyn Ponga 2. Thomas Jenkins 3. Dane Gagai 4. Bradman Best 5. Greg Marzhew 6. Tyson Gamble 7. Jackson Hastings 8. Jacob Saifiti 9. Phoenix Crossland 10. Leo Thompson 11. Tyson Frizell 12. Kai Pearce-Paul 13. Adam Elliott Bench: 14. Jack Cogger 15. Daniel Saifiti 16. Jack Hetherington 17. Jed Cartwright Reserves: 18. Brodie Jones 19. Will Pryce 20. Mathew Croker 21. THE PREDICTION

North Queensland Cowboys will feel they laid down a marker for the season with a big win over the Dolphins last week. While there are much tougher tasks to come, the Cowboys showed some real quality with the ball and that movement could cause issues for Newcastle Knights who played really poorly last week. They struggled to get anything going against Canberra Raiders and while they are capable of bouncing back here, preference has to be with the hosts to go back-to-back.

TIP: NORTH QUEENSLAND COWBOYS TO WIN
