THE TEAM NEWS

NEWCASTLE KNIGHTS

  • Newcastle Knights produced one of their better performances of the season as they ran out comfortable winners against Gold Coast Titans last week and they will be desperate to build on that in this important clash with South Sydney Rabbitohs.
  • The Knights could make a late charge towards the top eight but will need to beat one of their rivals for a place in the finals in the shape of the Rabbitohs and they will have to do so without Kalyn Ponga and Dane Gagai owing to their State of Origin involvement, although Jayden Brailey will make a welcome return from a long-term Achilles injury.

Starting 13: Hoy, Lee, Tuala, Best, Young, Milford, Clune, Klemmer, Randall, D. Saifiti, Frizell, Barnett, Mann – Interchanges: Brailey, J. Saifiti, Thompson, Croker – Reserves: Sasagi, Saulo, Fitzgibbon, Hunt, Clifford

Unavailable: Bailey Hodgson, Chris Vea’ila, Kalyn Ponga, Dane Gagai

SOUTH SYDNEY RABBITOHS

  • South Sydney Rabbitohs made it three wins from their last four games as they put their horror show against St. George Illawarra Dragons behind them by defeating Parramatta Eels in emphatic fashion last week.
  • The return of influential fullback Latrell Mitchell was a big boost for the Rabbitohs but they now come into this game without Cameron Murray, Damien Cook and Jai Arrow owing to Origin call-ups while Campbell Graham and Hame Sele have joined the injury list.

Starting 13: L. Mitchell, Johnston, Milne, Tass, Paulo, Walker, Ilias, Tatola, Havili, Burgess, Koloamatangi, Cartwright, Nicholls – Interchanges: Nikorima, Taaffe, Chee Kam, Moale – Reserves: Suluka-Fifita, Lovett, Kennar, S. Mitchell, Hawkins

Unavailable: Jacob Host, Peter Mamouzelos, Campbell Graham, Hame Sele, Liam Knight, Cameron Murray, Damien Cook, Jai Arrow

THE PREDICTION

Newcastle Knights were impressive last week as they swept aside struggling Gold Coast Titans to claim an important win but much tougher tasks lie in wait here. Their wingers each crossed for hat-tricks in that contest with Edrick Lee notching an incredible five tries and they will look to give the ball some air again in this contest. South Sydney Rabbitohs have won three of their last four after getting the better of Parramatta Eels in their latest contest but with injuries beginning to bite and Origin call-ups compounding their issues this week, the home side make appeal with the aid of a +6.5 start on the handicap.
