THE TEAM NEWS

SOUTH SYDNEY RABBITOHS

Starting 13: Allan, Johnston, Graham, Gagai, Paulo, Walker, Reynolds, Knight, Cook, Burgess, Cartwright, Sironen, Murray – Interchanges: Nicholls, Sele, Mago, Koloamatangi – Reserves: Tatola, Johns, Dargan, Denniss

Unavailable: Tom Amone (Injured), Braidon Burns (Injured), James Roberts (Injured), Ethan Lowe (Injured), Latrell Mitchell (Injured), Jaydn Su’A (Suspended)

  • South Sydney Rabbitohs suffered a shock loss at the hands of Canterbury Bulldogs last week and that defeat may end up costing them the opportunity of hosting an elimination final in the first week of the finals.
  • The Bulldogs were at the foot of the ladder heading into that clash with Souths expected to win comfortably but they started terribly as they found themselves 0-20 down after the 30-minute mark and despite drawing close, they were unable to take the lead.
  • Dane Gagai will come straight back into the side having sat out last week due to suspension with Steven Marsters the man to make way in the centres while Jaydn Su’A drops out due to a ban of his own with Jed Cartwright listed to start and Patrick Mago called onto the bench.

SYDNEY ROOSTERS

Starting 13: Tedesco, Tupou, J. Morris, Aubusson, B. Morris, Keary, Flanagan, Waerea-Hargreaves, Friend, Taueiaho, Cordner, Tupouniua, Crichton – Interchanges: Lam, Faamausili, N. Butcher, Williams – Reserves: Ikuvalu, Fifita, Lussick, Hall

Unavailable: Billy Smith (Injured), Victor Radley (Injured), Sam Verrills (Injured)

  • Sydney Roosters produced another strong display to make it five wins in a row with a comfortable success against Cronulla Sharks last week and they look to be building nicely ahead of the finals.
  • The defending premiers opted to rest a handful of stars but it did not deter them as they claimed a 34-18 victory and they will seal third spot with their sixth consecutive win in this clash.
  • James Tedesco, Jake Friend, Boyd Cordner and Siosiua Taukeiaho all return having sat out last week but Joey Manu, Lindsay Collins and Isaac Liu will be absent this week as they are afforded a rest ahead of the finals.

THE PREDICTION

South Sydney Rabbitohs could have blown the chance to finish in the top six and with it, a home elimination final as they lost to Canterbury Bulldogs last week. They must now beat old rivals Sydney Roosters and hope other results go their way if they are to have any chance of finishing sixth. The Roosters will have other ideas as they look to seal third place and with five successive victories behind them, the Tricolours should be able to win this one by at least ten points.
