Roman Safiullin vs Joao Fonseca prediction

Roman Safiullin continued his run at Wimbledon as he came through his second successive five set match to beat Botic van de Zandschulp in the second-round of Wimbledon. Safiullin once again prevailed in a deciding set tiebreak, having also done so against Andrey Rublev in round one. He won 6-0 4-6 6-3 3-6 7-6 (5). He now has won five straight matches in a row, having qualified for the tournament.

He will now play Joao Fonseca, who advanced to round three for the second straight year at SW19 after a comfortable win over Jesper de Jong. The Brazilian was broken just once and struck 50 winners as he won 6-1 7-5 6-4 after two hours and 21 minutes.

Fonseca is looking more comfortable on the grass and is yet to drop a set, while Safiullin has already shown that he can push top players deep at Wimbledon. The 19-year-old is the favourite, but Safiullin’s experience and ability to raise his game at this event suggests he is more than capable of making this a closely contested battle.
