Robin Montgomery picked up her first win over a top 100 opponent in over a year as she came from a set down to beat Daria Kasatkina in round one of the Libema Open. Kasatkina had reached the third-round of Roland Garros in her previous event and took the first set after breaking in the 11th game and serving it out. However, Montgomery dominated the second and broke as Kasatkina was serving to stay in the match to win 5-7 6-0 6-4. This was her first win on the tour since last year’s French Open.
She will take on Greet Minnen after her fine win over Janice Tjen. Minnen was not broken on serve and created 10 break point opportunities in total as she won 7-6 (4) 6-1 after one hour and 47 minutes. This was her first top 50 win since beating Anastasia Potapova at the China Open in 2024.
Both players are coming off brilliant wins in their opening matches. Nevertheless, Minnen does have the stronger overall record on the surface, and she may just have the edge here.
