Roberto Bautista Agut vs Christopher O’Connell prediction

There were positive signs for Roberto Bautista Agut in Cincinnati, as he defeated Daniel Altmaier and Cameron Norrie to reach the third-round. He put up a fight against Ben Shelton, who was fresh off his first Masters 1000 triumph in Toronto, but lost the first set on a tiebreak and ran out of steam in the second. He is the 14th seed in this tournament and lifted the title here eight years ago.

Christopher O’Connell will be his opponent in the second-round as he produced a strong display to defeat Roman Safiullin 6-3 6-3. The Australian did not lose serve throughout the match and broke Safiullin on three separate occasions to seal the win after an hour and 21 minutes.

O’Connell also leads the head-to-head, defeating Bautista Agut two years ago in the second-round of the Qatar Open. However, he only managed a first serve percentage of 45% in his first-round match and is going to have to improve upon that if he is to defeat the 37-year-old.

The Spaniard has certainly improved his level of performance over the last couple of months compared to his start to 2025, and we back the former champion to come through and win here.
