Richard Veenstra made the third round of the PDC World Darts Championship on his first appearance last year, defeating Ben Rob and the seeded Kim Huybrechts before bowing out to Michael van Gerwen.

A decorated BDO player before he earned a Tour Card at the beginning of 2023, the Dutchman has naturally found things tougher in the PDC but he has worked his way up to 47 in the world rankings. The highlights of 2024 for Veenstra have been a fourth-round appearance at the UK Open in March and a run to the quarter-finals of Players Championship 12 three months later.

After topping the Asian Tour Order of Merit, Alexis Toylo will make his Alexandra Palace debut on Saturday but he did get a taste of the big stage when he represented the Philippines at the World Cup of Darts in June.

Veenstra is the clear leader here in terms of seasonal averages and checkout percentages, and the Dutchman can be expected to cruise to a routine victory against the debutant.
