Reilly Opelka produced one of his best displays of the year as he finally cracked the Alex de Minaur code to reach the third round in Cincinnati.

The American secured a first ever tour-level win over the Aussie sixth seed, landing 14 aces and saving seven out of seven break points to claim a 7-6 6-4 success.

The world number 73 will now play Francisco Comesana for the first time after the Argentine, ranked just two places above Opelka, saw off 29th seed Luciano Darderi.

The Italian retired at 6-4 3-1 down to hand the South American another rare hardcourt win.

Given Comesana is usually far more comfortable on clay, this is a decent run that may well come to an end as he tries to contend with the power of the towering American.

If Opelka serves well and comes up clutch like he did against de Minaur, it should be straight-forward for him.
