Reilly Opelka made a winning start at Queen’s as he defeated Camilo Ugo Carabelli 7-6 6-4 in the first-round. The big serving American thundered down 21 aces and now has six wins from his opening seven matches of the grass court season after a run from the qualifiers to the semi-finals of the Libema Open last week.
He takes on Arthur Rinderknech in the next round after the Frenchman secured his first ever victory over a top 10 opponent as he defeated Ben Shelton 7-6 7-6. There were no breaks on serve during the entire match, but Rinderknech produced the goods when it mattered in both tiebreaks to pull off a fine upset.
They have met once before, in the first-round of the Shanghai Masters last year, as Rinderknech defeated Opelka in straight sets. The American is in much better form this time around and has made a strong start to his grass court campaign. Both players might be rock solid on serve but Opelka is good value to win this in three sets.
