Reilly Opelka & Venus Williams vs Andrey Rublev & Karolina Muchova prediction
Reilly Opelka has not played a great deal of doubles tennis during his career, but fortunately for him he will be playing alongside a partner who has won 14 women’s doubles Grand Slam titles and two in the mixed doubles.
Venus Williams’ last mixed doubles major was in 1998, but having played some fairly impressive singles in Canada and Cincinnati recently, the 45-year-old is still capable of performing on court.
Andrey Rublev fairly frequently competes in doubles events, although not in the slams of late, and won gold at the 2020 Olympics alongside Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova. Karolina Muchova, on the other hand, doesn’t often deviate from singles so this is largely unfamiliar territory for her.
Opelka’s huge serve combined with Williams’ efficient net play will give the Americans every chance here. The bookies are favouring Rublev and Muchova but this could be one to go against the odds.
