Rebeka Masarova picked up a fine win over Xinyu Wang in the first-round of the ATX Open. The Chinese player had beaten Masarova earlier this month at the Transylvania Open, but the roles were reversed here as the Swiss broke serve on four occasions to win 6-3 6-2 after just one hour and six minutes. It was a strong serving performance from Masarova, as she produced a first serve percentage of 76% and won 80% of those points.

She faces Whitney Osuigwe in the next round. The American came from a set down to defeat Elizabeth Mandlik. She dominated the deciding set to win 2-6 6-3 6-1 after two hours and five minutes.

Both players had to qualify for this event and have now won three matches in a row. If Masarova puts in a similar display, she will give herself a brilliant chance of making a first WTA quarter-final of the season.
