Rebecca Sramkova competed at the Brisbane International, qualifying for the tournament but losing in round one after a three set defeat to Kimberly Birrell. She won her first main draw match of the season in Hobart after a gritty win over Varvara Gracheva, but she would go on to lose to Taylah Preston in straight sets.

Jelena Ostapenko has not got going in 2026 with two defeats so far. She lost in Brisbane to Sorana Cirstea and then was forced to retire from her match against Tereza Valentova in Adelaide. The Latvian struggled for form towards the end of last season and has not been able to recapture it.

Ostapenko leads the head-to-head 3-0, but all of their matches have gone the distance. Sramkova’s consistency and depth could frustrate the 2017 French Open champion, and she has the ability to take a set here. Ostapenko has the weapons to win, but she cannot afford a slow start.
